Whatever did we do before you tube? The internet giant has taken on a life of its own and it transpires that the formula is permeating other areas of media, marketing, publicity, news and entertainment in the form of video reviews. My cynical side would like to declare that all the young people of today quite frankly can”t be bothered to read anymore, and just want to look at pictures and listen to noises to find out what is going on. But I have a sneaking suspicion that this attitude is somewhat Victorian, snobbish, elitist or just downright ignorant.
For a start, reading had only been accessible to the majority of westerners for a hundred years or so, before that, only the most wealthy were privileged enough to be able to afford to educate themselves or their children. Even in modern society, there are many people who are illiterate and therefore cannot access information that is presented in written form.
Then there is the issue that even if a person can read, the material may not be presented in a language that can be understood. Arguably, trying to glean information from a video review in a foreign language is not necessarily going to be successful or accurate, but it is amazing the amount of information that can be deciphered through body language and tone of voice. All you need do is recall the last time you watched a subtitled movie, or absent mindedly watched a commercial whilst abroad; I can almost guarantee you got the general gist of what was going on by visual and audio cues.
The power of this visual information is actually embedded in our distant past. Before the term technology was even a concept, our ancestors sat around a fire, sharing food and stories. The flickering of the rising flames was a natural attraction to the eye, and as the evening darkened, hearing was used to listen for any danger. Back then we were keyed to be alert to danger and responsive to receiving knowledge. Children and adults alike would learn the ways of their culture by listening to the elders tell stories, and by watching dances and demonstrations.
The new craving and acceptance of video reviews is little more than a revival of an audio visual learning environment, and should be embraced. There are sadly many children in this country that have been failed by the education system, and have a sub-standard level of being able to read or write. In realistic terms, this number is nothing compared to the illiterate masses a couple of hundred years ago, but at least an audio and visual medium for presenting information is a way of educating and informing citizens of all classes.
Ultimately, the very nature of the you tube generation and the posts that are being made on blogs and via news sites is a cross section of opinions, conspiracies, likes, loves, hates and general nonsense amongst rare gems. The more video review type posts that are made, the more unbiased the resulting information should be. Rather than the system being seen as a dumbing down of society, it should be embraced as an example of liberation, freedom of speech and democracy.

GSM cell phones are more beneficial than the locked phones. Improvement in technology has reduced the cost of the GSM cell phones. GSM cell phones are fast becoming one of the most popular cell phone standard for cellular phones in the world. These phones are already available in over 210 countries including the US and offer greater mobility and superb digital call quality. They”re designed to work with any service provider. In theory, all you need to do is swap the SIM account card in the phone.
As mentioned above GSM cell phones operate by using a SIM card. SIM (Security Identification Module) cards used in Global System for Mobile (GSM) cell phones are essentially smart cards that identify a unique subscriber to a wireless network and describe the services that the subscriber is entitled to receive. Since SIM cards are tied to a single subscriber, they are exchangeable between any handset that the subscriber chooses to use. The SIM card is issued by a carrier and provides cell service by activating any phone into which it is inserted. GSM cell phones are classified by its maximum transmission power in 5 classes: 20, 8, 5, 2 and 0.5 watt. A 20W device is called Class 1 and 08 is Class 5.
GSM cell phones are available in dual-band, tri-band and quad-band models. A dual band (900 and/or1800 MHz) cell phone is adequate if you only need service in overseas networks including Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and all of Asia except for Japan and South Korea. These phones are becoming very common in the US as the technology becomes more accepted. If you plan to do any international travel, you will want to select from the variety of GSM cell phones that are available.
GSM Cell phones are considered to be much more customer friendly because an unlocked GSM phone can be can be moved from carrier to carrier just by changing the SIM card. Now that people can keep their phone numbers when change carriers, and for the first time since the days of Analog cellular people will be able to keep their phones again.
Rates and configuration are obtained through the carrier and can vary widely. Some GPRS phones can be used as a modem when connected to a laptop computer. And in this case you are charged for the amount of data you download, not by the time you stay online. This is possible because in GPRS you receive data via packet switching, not circuit switching. Whereas call rates can be extremely low using this system. For example in 99% of all SIM CARDS incoming calls are free and calls to the states can cost a trifle.
In case of GSM cell phones international roaming is a considerable part of domestic providers” revenue so they “lock” their tri-band phones. That means that, even though cell phones come out of the factory compatible with any SIM card in the world, domestic providers manipulate the phones they sell so that they will only accept their own SIM cards.

Can you believe how far mobile phones have come in the last ten years? Toda’’s phones look nothing like their mammoth ancestors, and with the applications they are capable of, you can hardly tell that modern mobile phones were related to those out-dated predecessors. Now we have mobile phones that aren”t only capable of sending and receiving calls, they can surf the web, play games, play music, take pictures, capture video and more.
With all the fun things your mobile phone can do, shouldn”t you be taking advantage of them? DO you know what types of applications and features your phone has? If you don”t, dust off the user manual you received back when you purchased your phone. In there, you”ll find what capabilities your phone might have, whether its games, fun pictures, real tone ringtones, cameras or any number of any fun things your phone can do. Once you know all of your phone’’s features, you can have them download to phone directly, where you can start enjoying them.
Most people start off with a fun ringtone. Using your favorite service online, you can simply choose any of your favorite songs and download to phone quickly so that you can start enjoying the right away. Ringtones are a fun way to personalize your phone. You can even use different songs and sound clips to create ringtones for the different people in your phone book, so you always know who’’s calling before you pick up the phone to see.
Another fun way to jazz up your phone is to add games. Games on your phone are a great way to pass the time, especially when waiting at say, the doctor’’s office. Because they are quiet and discreet, you can get away with downloading them and playing them on your phone without anyone noticing!
You can also use any of your favorite pictures from the web on your phone as a background. You don”t have to take the picture with the phone’’s camera itself in order to use it, simply send the content of your favorite picture to your phone and use it for different settings on your phone. It’’s a fun idea to have a picture of the person who is calling flash on your phone’’s screen when they call, and you can do this easily by downloading the pictures to your phone and arranging them using your phone’’s settings.

Many television viewers are finding that cable service are lacking quite a bit, not only is the coverage spotty but many cable companies do not offer an large array of scheduling. As a result, they are turning to other options that have more to provide and even cable tv providers that are able to supply high definition scheduling are only able to do so in extremely limited portions. This is because cable providers generally do not have the engineering necessary to deliver the HD television (HDTV) scheduling in the higher quantities and variety that satellite television suppliers are able to supply. A larger variety of hd scheduling is however offered by DirecTV and Dish Network, and this is soon gaining a great amount of customer satisfaction.
In this regard the Dish Network has gained a lot of popularity with viewers since they are able to provide more than 30 channels of HD programming. The DirecTV HD package offers a number of channels in HD; in fact, far more than any other provider (including cable tv) can provide. A viewer can easily add further high definition programming to what is provided by the satellite supplier. This can fit the budget of any television viewer as he can add hd scheduling to any standard package, which is provided to him at a very reasonable price. Even the most basic packages provide a wide variety of screening options as well as umteen music channel options.
The added benefit of a high definition audio engineering is part of the HDTV programming which both the satellite suppliers provide. The digitalized surround sound is music to the ears since it uses the Dolby noise reduction facility and seems as if it is from a CD where every note is clear and sharp. Viewers therefore find the quality of sound coming from their hd programming much better than the sound they are familiar with from their tv. To make the sound more real, may viewers connect their televisions to stereophonic speakers.
In addition, viewers are able to take advantage of a picture quality that is far greatest as well when they sign up for a subscription satellite television package from Dish Network or Direct TV HD. Though everyone talks about the superiority of HDTV, most viewers can not realize that the full benefits can only be appreciated with high definition programming. hd scheduling uses the HDTV engineering to the full benefit of the viewers who can see the most spotless and immaculate pictures on their televisions. It is feasible for satellite TV to offer more channels than the cable companies since their hardware utilization has not yet reached its full capacity.
The recent sharp drop in the prices of HD televisions has made the sets more accessible to a larger customer base. So much so that customers are finding that buying a HDTV is far more affordable and not very much more than a standard tv set. Since there is an increase in the number of hd programs offered by satellite suppliers, we can expect a simultaneous rise in the customer base also who would enjoy this kind of superior quality programming.

The ultimate goal of technology is to improve lives of people in all walks of life and it has accomplishing that one advanced step at a time. We have embraced and welcomed technological advances into our homes and into every aspect of our lives. We have become so dependent on technology that we have forgotten that it has not always been so, but we understand very little of it. Let us take cell phones, for instance. We love them, we rely on them and we cannot image living without them, but do we know what makes them tick? Do we have a clue as to how or even why they serve us so faithfully?
Sure, we know which keys to push for the particular end results we want to see, but do we know what goes on hide and beyond those keys? I dont think so. If we look around us we can witness those who seem to have a better understanding but I am willing to bet that even they are a long way from fully understanding what makes phones tick. Remember, the more you know about your phone, the better it will serve you. And the better it serves you, the more time you will have for learning more about it.
What Can Our Phones Do For Us
It seems that the possibilities are endless. Most phones in todays market do things that could have only been dreamed up by a writer of science fiction as recently as twenty years ago. For it to be able to provide an electronic calendar, an address book, a fully functional camera and video, a way to connect to the Internet with no wires, the ability to send and receive e-mails, text and photo messages and so on and on was a fantasy then, but it is a viable reality today.
Technology is moving at such neck-breaking speeds that it is almost impossible to keep up with all the new features, the latest functions and the most recent add-on gadgets. Some cell phone users, particularly those of the younger generations, get excited with every innovation and welcome the challenge it poses. Many users however, are only left bewildered and fearful of all those changes which are seemingly above and beyond what they will ever use. Understanding what makes cell phones tick will undoubtedly help the young and the restless to continue to embrace more and more innovation and, at the same time, it will motivate the timid and fearful to reach out and expand their horizons.
Frequencies and Channels Are Essential
Believe it or not, your high-tech phone and mine are really only radios. Dont be alarmed, let me explain. Our phones use exactly the same systems that were used for our great-grandfathers radios radio frequencies and channels.
If not for radio frequencies, we would not have the ability to communicate by simply dialing a number. Our voices are picked up by one out of the huge number of towers that have been put up all around the globe. From there, our voices are carried via individual radio frequencies to the people we want to communicate with. When the people we are communicating with respond, their voices are picked up by a phone tower and are then transmitted via other radio frequencies into our receivers to be heard through their earpieces. Every phone connection utilized two radio frequencies, one for each person at each end of the line. The two separate radio frequencies are necessary to prevent the two voices from colliding.
Channels allow a number of callers in a specific area to use their phone simultaneously and each call must use its own designated channel. Needless to say, in the absence of channels cell phone calls would never be transmitted.
As there is a continual increase of cell phone usage, the numbers of available transmitters is continually increase and more and more cell phone towers are being continually set up everywhere in the world.
Todays Cell Technology
It seems like an oxymoron, but the smaller, the thinner and the lighter todays cell phones become, the more high tech features they seem to contain. At first glance, todays cell phones have little in common with cell phones of the past but that is deceptive because their core technology has not changed at all.
The core technology in the earlier phones was set up to make analog calls while the same core technology in todays (2G and 3G) cell phones makes digital calls. The difference between the two, the analog and the digital, is simply that the digital calls are condensed but analog calls are not. The condensed calls make room for more channels which makes cell phone communication more efficient. Whereas the core technology has remained the same, somehow the durability of the phones of today has increased greatly and they are able to withstand much more usage then their predecessors were.
As a direct result of the highly technological elements, they are able to handle more features and functions which are added on continually. To truly appreciate the tremendous technology that is contained we need only to look at their extensive list of features which we must understand before we can come to know what makes them tick.
Internal Elements
The internal elements are many and their collaboration with each other is intricate. The most basic of elements within phones are: speakers, microphones, keyboards, display screens, batteries, antennas and circuit boards.
The circuit boards are the platforms on which they perform all their tricks. The circuit boards accommodate chips that enable us to make and receive calls by converting analog to digital and visa versa; it houses the microprocessor which interprets our commends and obeys them; and it contains the ROM and Flash memory as well as the memory card slots all of which are used to save and store appointments, phone numbers, photos and images and so on.
The Third Generation (3G) Cell Phones
Technology has reached new heights with the third generation (3G) phones of today. And the new technology is multimedia and allows us to use our cell phones to connect with the Internet, to download office document, music, photo and image files and so much more and at much higher speeds.
Before we part our ways, I would like to remind you that todays phones still use the same core technology by using radio frequencies and channels that have been used in the earliest radios. However, they will continue to acquire new features that will perform new and exciting tasks. It wont be easy, but I encourage you to keep up with the latest technology in preparation of what it will bring into our future but, the same time, continue to appreciate what we use today.

We have all experienced our share of solicitations out there. Marketing campaigns have their ways of getting their hands on our information. In many instances it is sold to them by other companies we have done business with. Ten years ago most of us only had to deal with such solicitations in our mailboxes and over the house phone. It then moved on to our e-mail accounts. Now the target has become our cell phones.
When you get a call on your phone you expect it to be someone that you know. After all your cell phone number isnt readily available for the general public to access. Discovering that it is a solicitations call can be frustrating. The fact that you will have to use your cell phone minutes to deal with such calls is also frustrating. If you get a call once in a while it may not be such a big deal to you. Yet there cell phone users out there getting several of these unwanted phone calls every single day.
You may be well aware of the do not call registry. You can call or email them to take your phone number off their list. However, you can also do this for your cell phone number as well. A couple of minutes to do this can certainly stop most of them from coming to your phone. If you continue to get them tell the caller you are on the do not call list. It is illegal for them to continue calling you once they have been told you are on that list.
If the phone calls persist then you will want to report it. Keep in mind though that it can take up to 30 days after you get on this no call list before the information is in the database of solicitors. If they do call you during that initial 30 day span you need to firmly tell them what you have done to stop such calls from being placed to your cell phone.
Get the phone number that shows up on your phone. You also want to get the name of their agency and the time when they called. Their organization can be fined once it is verified they are calling you when they shouldnt be. You also want to be very careful what business organizations you give your cell phone number to. Take the time to ask them if they sell their customers information to other organizations.

Today there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of cell phones, call plans and providers to choose from. There are many ways in which you can save money when it comes to buying a new cell phone. This all depends on your needs: what kind of phone you want, how much you have available to spend, and how many calls you are likely to use. Not only this, but your choice of cell phone provider will also depend on where you live. Here is a quick guide to making sense of all these choices.
Type Of Phone
As you begin your search for a new cell phone you will see that there are many makes and models available. The phone that you choose will depend specifically upon whether you want your phone to be practical or stylish. Do you need it to be able to connect to the internet, to play music, or to take photographs? If you just want a basic phone you may be able to save money, but if you need all the bells and whistles you should expect to spend a little more. Bear in mind that different service providers will also have different phones available.
Think About Your Budget
If you are trying to save money then prepaid plans are always the best option, due to the fact that you can only make as many calls as you have paid for upfront. Traditional contract phones often left people with huge bills each month after accidentally using too many minutes, but this can never happen in the case of prepaid plans.
When choosing a prepaid plan you will always be able to dictate exactly how much you want to spend each month, meaning that you can keep track of how much each call costs and never receive any monthly bills.
Available Plans
Once you have chosen a few phones that you like the look of, you should make sure that they all offer prepaid (pay as you go) plans. These are plans that let you pay in advance and do not require any form of contract to use. Start looking specifically at the different prepaid plans that are available. This will include many different service providers, and comparing factors such as local call costs, the cost of sending and receiving text messages, and roaming charges (which may often be charged at extra cost).
Do A Little Research
In order to compare your options easily you can either go to a store that sells various different cell phone provider plans, or visit a specific phone plan comparison website. These are becoming more common these days, making choosing your new phone much easier. You simply type in a few details and you will be able to see your various options laid out side by side.
Conclusion
If you are overwhelmed at all the options available when it comes to choosing a prepaid cell phone then don”t panic! Many store assistants will be more than willing to let you know exactly how each plan works, as well as giving you a rundown of the features on the phones available.
Take your time to choose a plan that will serve your specific needs well. Once you have, you should be able to top up your phone using cash or a credit card, and at various different locations in your local area. This can be done whenever you want, and you will never be tied down to a plan since there is not contract involved.
Bear these factors in mind and you should be able to find a plan that fits your budget exactly.
