With the advent of the internet, there are now an increasing number of people who are working outside of office environments and instead are working from their homes, their favorite coffee house, or from the road. Every electronic item that we buy always comes with one warning. Avoid contact with liquids. This is also true for our valuable laptops. However, try as we may, there will be times when we do end up spilling water or any other kind of liquid on our laptops. What should you do in this case? Well, firstly keep liquids away from your laptop. After all taking precautions is the best thing that you can do for avoiding damage to your laptops.
But in case you do end up spilling liquids on your laptop at that one slightly careless point in time, here are some water damage restoration steps that will help you.
First and foremost step in the water damage restoration of your laptops is turning it off. You should shut down your laptop immediately. Unplug it from any electricity source. Remove the batteries from the laptop. By cutting off all power to your machine, you will ensure that no damage is done to your motherboard.

When plasma screen television first hit the market, everyone was at awe. When viewed next to the heavier models that took up more room, the thin and flat new model was definitely an upgrade. From the humble thermometer to advanced electrical heat recorders, temperature sensors are used for all manner of purposes in a disparate number of industries. The more advanced forms of contact measurement device are labelled as thermocouples and resistance temperature detectors or RTDs. The measurement of temperature typically takes place in liquids or through contact with the target surface. Contact measurement is not always required however; there are sensors on the market that are able to make a measurement of heat without physical contact. Normally this is done with the use of either infra-red or air ionisation technology.
When selecting a sensor the large amount of considerations can make the decision making process difficult. Part of this process should be an assessment of the temperature range that must be measured, how accurate the device must be and how long it will take for any particular device to produce results. For those who consider accuracy to be of prime importance the most common choice is an RTD sensor. Cost may also come into the equation, if this is the case; thermocouples present a far more affordable and cost effective option. It is hoped that this following information will give those considering temperature sensors the knowledge required to decide between RTD, thermocouple and Infrared thermometer varieties.
The RTD uses the increased resistivity caused by heat to make an accurate measurement of temperature. The manufacture of RTDs uses materials such as platinum, nickel and copper for their chemical properties. Copper and nickel variants are most widely used in situations where low temperatures are measured; in contrast platinum, a far more expensive material has a greater range and hence are used for more far reaching applications. Despite their advanced uses the basics of RTD construction are relatively simple; normally the sensing element made from metal is connected to a non-conducting component made from either ceramic or glass. Resistance is measured across the two elements and from this the temperature can be deduced.
Thermocouples are fundamentally different to RTDs as they use two different metals, connected at one end that produces a voltage; this voltage is then converted into a heat reading. The meeting point of the two metals is termed the sensing junction; this component can be attached to wire extensions, subsequently increasing the physical range of the device. As almost any metals can be used in the manufacture of thermocouples, the construction costs are markedly less than those of RTDs. A downside is however that any interference in the circuit will lead to inaccurate results; in some applications this is simply not workable.
Infrared temperature sensors are becoming increasingly popular in many industries and scientific situations. They do not require contact with the target material in order to gain a reading. This remote measurement is particularly useful for some applications, such as in motor sport where the heat of tyres needs to be measured. The device focuses infrared rays through a lens and then measures the effects on the light to gain a reading. Other applications for this form of device are in the calibration of built-in thermostats, in fridges and ovens.
This article has been only an introduction into the different forms of temperature sensor on the market today. It is brief and literally scratches the surface of the types of sensors out there and how they work. Tubular piling might well sound like a particularly painful and unique medical condition to the layperson however it is actually an extremely important part of large-scale construction. Piling is traditionally made of wood and it refers to long structural beams in various shapes that are driven deep into the ground using piling rigs in order to support the structure of the building project.
Now piling comes in various forms such as concrete and steel with different shapes dependent on the technical specifications of the building project. Many factors affect the use of piling such as the load of the structure, the depth of the foundation, the ground density and the soil type. The piling can be driven into the ground or drilled in, however the advantageous benefits of driving piling is that the soil around the piling becomes compact.
Piling is used in deep foundations and the shape of piling depends on the structure being built, for large scale construction tubular metal piling is driven into the ground then filled with pre-stressed concrete. The number of tubular piles depends on the individual structure of the project and the weight that the deep foundations need to incur. H-beams or square concrete piles are used for certain projects such as domestic residences or small scale apartments.
A case study in 1960 was performed in Vietnam when building a major road from the city of Saigon North. The soil below the surface consisted of layers of muck on top of clay and sand which meant that there was no solid foundation to build on, risking subsidence under the massive weight of traffic. Massive metal tubular pilings were driven into the ground then filled with concrete. Test were carried out on them to evaluate their load capacity.
It is recommended that when dealing with piles over a certain size that tests are carried out on their load capacity and how they perform under certain weights. The production of tubular piles must be done to various standards regulated by industrial watchdogs. The process is called rolling and welding tubing where exactly circular tubes are formed by rolling sheets of metal and then welding them together.
Other forms of piling are drilled piles, underreamed piles and auger cast piles. They serve different purposes such as high load bearing or specialist systems for unstable subsurface sediment. They are essential to large-scale construction and there are a few specialist manufacturers who can provide rolled and welded tubing to exact specifications.

Who doesn”t love games?!? I don”t think I can name one person that is my age who doesn”t enjoy playing video games online or offline, it’’s just a fact of life! Between the DS lites and the Xbox 360s there’’s no denying that gaming is a large part of a lot of people’’s lives. According to market researcher David Cole, who runs the firm DFC Intelligence, his best estimate is that 40 percent of U.S. households own a working video-game console. Michael Pachter, an analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities, estimates that 52 percent of households own consoles. Neither Cole nor Pachter is counting handheld devices, such as Nintendo’’s Game Boy or Sony’’s PlayStation Portable (PSP). Whether it’’s 40% or 52% those are still pretty large percentages regarding ownership of gaming consoles!
The only downside to teasing us with all these new gaming capabilities is the price. Wii, for example, has been out for a while now and it still costs a few hundred bucks to buy one of these things. I even tried eBay, one of my all time favorite stores and the price can go up to $4,000 when bidding! That, to me, is just ridiculous. I would never pay that much for a system, ever! Sony Playstation 3 comes in at around $400 on a site like Best Buy, and Xbox 360 comes in at around $260 for a regular Xbox 360 and at around $400 for an Elite. The games aren”t much better heading in at around $40-$100 per game depending on its popularity and if it’’s a special “limited” game.
So, what exactly are people supposed to do? Just not buy these consoles or games? No! Here’’s what I do, I visit sites that have cheap or discount games and consoles. This allows you to buy the same exact quality assurance product at a store such as Best Buy but not pay an arm and a leg for the product. For example, a PS3 at a discount store will cost somewhere around $284 compared to other predecessors such as Best Buy for $400. That is sick! In this case, you could buy a discount PS3 for you and a friend and just top the price of one PS3 at Best Buy. The same goes for the top PS3 games. For example, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3) cost about $40 at Best Buy, and at discount stores about $20! That’’s a $20 savings difference! Alright, let’’s try for top PS3 accessories. The Logitech Driving Force Pro Wheel (PS3) From Logitech (yes the discount sites sell everything the regular stores do) which cost about $150 in retail stores and $75 in discount store. That’’s pretty incredible.
So, really, which choice is the best choice? Really, I would go for the discount store. You can have all the same high quality products the regular stores sell, for a fraction of the price, and who doesn”t love saving money?!? Try it out for yourself so you can see exactly what I mean. Have fun and if you get stuck on any of the games you can always look for PS3 cheats online, there are plenty around!
