Features Of The Nintendo-Wii Game Console

April 14, 2008

By Roberto Sedycias

Nintendo-Wii, the seventh generation video game systems, was launched by Nintendo in September 2006. The Wii video system pronounced `we` gather people of all ages and experience, together to play. The evocative name coupled with classic features, Nintendo Wii, has caused lot of ripples in the video game industry and it targets to broader section of people than occupied by Sony`s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft`s Xbox360. As of December 31st, 2007, 20.13 million of Nintendo Wii has been sold.

The current package includes the following: Wii console, remote with strap, one Nunchuk, AC adaptor, composite A/V cable, console stand, sensor bar and stand, two AA batteries and sports game.

The most extraordinary feature of this gaming console is the wireless controller, the Wii Remote and the WiiConnect 24. Measuring 1.7 x 6.2 x 8.5 inches (44 x 157 x 215.4 mm), and weighing only 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg), Nintendo wii comes as the smallest home gaming console and lightest among the three major players of the seventh generation gaming consoles.

The Wii has a powerful 512 MB internal flash memory, two number USB 2.0 ports and a slot provided for SD memory expansion. The SD card can be used for a variety of purpose, for example, as a back up for saved game data and downloaded virtual console games, for uploading photos, for creating customized music in the game, etc.

The heart of the system`s technology is a processing chip developed along with IBM and graphics chip from ATI. The processor chip is named as `Broadway` and the graphics chip is named as `Hollywood`. It uses a single, self loading media bay that plays both Nintendo Gamecube discs as well as 12 centimeter optical discs required for the new system.

The magical Wii remote has some striking features. The accelerometers located inside the controller and infrared detector to sense the position in 3D space can measure movements at all speeds and all directions. In a driving game it serves as your steering wheel. In Tennis game, you can use this as your racket to swing away and there are many more examples. The controller has expansion port for use with accessories as well it has force feedback `Rumble` features. The Wii Remote also has a small speaker at the center, allowing players to hear sounds programmed directly into the controller.

If you prefer the feel of a traditional controller, you can connect an adapter which is available and easily fits over the Wii`s remote.

The Wii console is backward compatible with Nintendo Gamecube software. The console can communicate with internet even when there is no power. It can also communicate with Nintendo DS wirelessly without any accessories.

The WiiConnect 24 allows download to players via the Internet. The downloadable items may include weapons, new level costumes, etc. WiiConnect 24 while keeps Wii on all day long, uses minimal energy. However players can deactivate this at any time.

Wii`s operating system interface is divided into a number of smaller channels, designed similar to the television channels. The channels are graphically displayed in a grid and can be easily navigated using Wii Remote. A short list of the available channels is as follows: forecast channel, photo channel, news channel, virtual console channel(s), Wii Shop Channel, internet channel, Wii message board, everybody votes channel and disc channel.

While playing offline, a maximum of four controllers can be used in Wii. Rather than focusing only on a costly technology, Nintendo is looking forward to put an emphasis on gameplay and innovation with Wii and company`s intention is to reach out to everybody including amateurs.

Free PSP Downloads For Savvy Internet Users

April 13, 2008

By Chris McCann

Savvy Internet users from all over the world are eager to download software for their Sony PSP in order to get free games. The problem is where do you find the software to do such a thing? There are dozens if not hundreds of websites out there that offer the service, but are they legit?

There are a few top companies that have developed a unique software application that allow users to search for and download free games, screensavers, backgrounds, themes, browsers and other software for the PSP device.

You can download the software directly from their websites after you sign up for a small one time membership fee (usually under $50.00). After that you can download and begin using immediately. The main benefit from using these websites is that the software has no per-download charges or other recurring fees to use it. That’’s right, pay once and the service is yours forever. It’’s not like an I-Tunes or other music website service where you have to pay 99 cents for each download. There is truly just a one time fee to use these services. Pay the membership fee and the software and access to the network is yours to keep forever.

According to these top selling website, their PSP software searches through roughly 20 million files on their network which is the largest download network of it’’s kind. So finding the exact game, movie, theme, wallpaper, etc is not difficult to find. Rest assured you can find what ever it is your looking for. There are over 350 PSP games available that Sony has put out, and most of them if not all can be found on these websites. The good news is that this network of files keeps growing, so as Sony puts out new games, themes, movies, etc these will be added to the network in a short period of time. So you can always get the most current releases available.

PSP downloads are not hard to find now, you just have to know where to look and who to trust. I would stick to the sites that are highly recommended by other users. Stick to the ones that have been doing it a while and have been in business for a least a couple years with trusted reputations. If you do that you can”t go wrong. Happy gaming and I hope you are able to find what you are looking for when it comes to getting free PSP downloads.

Digital Signage: Wrap Your Head Around This -Flexible Displays!

April 13, 2008

By David Little

Research firm iSuppli boldly proclaimed last month that 2008 will be known as the year flexible active matrix displays coalesced into a global market.

According to the El Segundo, CA, -based market research group, market for flexible displays worldwide will climb from $80 million last year to $2.8 billion by 2013 -a whopping 35-times increase.

Applications for the flexible displays will range from the way-out-there clothes made out of wearable displays to more conventional display applications like digital signs, electronic display cards and digital shelf labels and end caps.

If you”re not familiar with flexible active matrix technology, here’’s what they are in a nutshell. After much research and development, electronics giant Philips developed a technique for producing super-thin, rollable active matrix (i.e. pixel addressable) display that can be wrapped around objects –for example, a pillar in an airport concourse or a human body in a shirt.

Just this month, a paper in a nanotechnology journal laid out work of researchers at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, Northwestern University in Chicago and the University of Southern California who had successfully developed the first nanowire transistor-based active matrix display. The organic light emitting diode (OLED) display reportedly is every bit as bright as a flat LCD screen or CRT but has the added benefit of flexibility.

Think for a moment of the countless new applications there will be for digital signage based on this sort of flexible display. Architectural structures, such as pillars, supports and hand rails and even entire buildings; vehicles, such as tractor trailers and automobiles; personal items, such as apparel and umbrellas, all become potential homes for new flexible digital signage. While some surely will fail as appropriate homes form digital signage along the way, these sorts of applications are sure to contribute to the 35-fold growth iSuppli envisions.

As this technology matures so to will its performance characteristics. Tighter curves and smaller bends surely will follow with successive generations of these flexible displays. That in turn will lead to a whole new class of objects upon which the displays can be mounted. Eventually, it might even be possible to wrap a flexible active matrix display around a sphere to transform a ball into a globe displaying a computer graphic representation of the Earth -complete with landmasses and oceans. Or, 21st century equivalents of sandwich-board men, could don head-to-toe body wear to display unique promotions and ads. Imagine how that approach could be used to advertise the popular, traveling museum exhibit of plasticized human bodies.

As these applications unfold, there will be a need to address the problem of mapping a two-dimensional image onto a 3-D surface. Here too technology can conquer the challenge. Software applications, such as X-WARP, exist today to correct for such geometric distortions. In fact, such software is being used today to correct geometric distortions created by projecting an image with a video projector onto oddly shaped objects.

However, for the time being it’’s enough to know that 2008 will be the year flexible active-matrix displays make it out of the lab and into the mainstream. If iSuppli is right, it’’s entirely possible that before the end of this year we all will have wrapped our heads around the notion that video, graphics and text no longer must be confined to a flat display technology. Where that leads will only be limited by our imaginations.

Buying A Digital Camera? Here\’s My Experience!

April 12, 2008

By Jay Evans

A few months ago I went out and bought my self a digital camera. I really wanted to make certain, that I would have good photographs of my family. I especially wonted to capture our weekend excursions, since for to many years now I had kept such things undocumented. I was unsure which digital camera would be best for the kind of digital photography I would be doing, so I went to Best Buy and talked to a sales rep. He helped me go through all the different features and select the right digital camera for me.

If you are one of those people that love technology, the chances are you already have a digital camera. But there are a lot of people out there, just like me, which find making the switch from film photography to digital photography just a little bit difficult. In my case it’’s not because I don”t value technology, I was just uncertain about the quality of a digital photo compared with a photo taken with my 35mm. So as soon as I got my digital camera home I started taking pictures.

One of my favourite features of the digital camera is the facility to review the digital images in the cameras screen, before saving them or printing them. It makes it possible to take a whole series of photographs and then look through them and delete all the bad ones, I never have to worrying about wasting film again. As for the quality of the images I have to say I was truly surprised, the photos actually look generally better than those taken with my old 35mm.

Digital Photography has come a long way in the last few years, and now most digital cameras come with loads of features, that probable most people like me would never or rarely use. That’’s why if you don”t know what you want, it’’s imperative that you get a sales rep to explain all the different features of each camera you are looking at, so that you can properly determine what you need and which camera is best for you.

For example as I only intended to take pictures of my family I didn”t have much of a need for a tremendous zoom. But on the other hand, since I would be taking photos nearly every day of the week, I was in need of a digital camera with a battery that would last for a long time. Just by talking to the sales rep at Best Buy I was able to find the camera that most suited my usage. Don”t forget thou that once you have found a digital camera that suits you, you should go online and look up reviews on the camera, that way you can be truly sure that it is the right camera for you, don”t take one sales rep’’s word for everything.

How To Find The Best Sports Fitness Products

April 12, 2008

By Shaun Parker

Sports might be about getting fit, but that doesn”t mean it’’s not without its gadgets. Whether you”re running, cycling, snowboarding or swimming, gadgets can help you get the most out of training.

Here are a couple of great gadgets that will maximise your training, helping you on the road to victory.

Nike+ SportBand

The Nike+ SportBand allows runners to get real-time performance feedback during a run giving them information on their distance, pace, time and calories burned, in addition to gaining access to all of the features and tools on nike plus. The Nike+ SportBand watch face is a detachable link that captures all the run data from a sensor located in the runner’’s Nike+ ready footwear and once a run is completed, the link plugs into a computer like a USB drive, so data can be tracked. The system also offers Nike+ Coach so beginners and intermediate runners can access existing programmes to train for a 5k, 10k, half-marathon or full marathon.

Orange e-diet

Launching later in the year, the Orange e-diet is a text service in the UK that will allow you to monitor calories in the food you eat on the go. Users wanting to monitor what they eat will be able to text orange and get the calorie count back giving them the information of whether its good or bad for them before they buy.

Samsung miCoach fitness mobile phone

We”ve had camera-focused phones, we”ve had music-focused phones, and now Samsung is to launch a fitness-focused phone. Called the miCoach (F110), the quad-band slider handset will offer a dedicated fitness button that once connected to a heart rate monitor and a step counter will give you information about your heart beat, distance covered and time running when out on a run.

But rather than just record your information to download to a computer later, the phone, through the headphones, will give you running information on the fly by simply tapping the screen. Measuring your heartbeat, the phone will also tell you if you are running too fast or too slow, based on the fitness programme you have selected. The miCoach will offer over 220 training programmes via a fitness website ranging from plans focused towards you loosing weight or running a marathon and measure your running speed within four zones to best suit your training based on an initial assessment run.

Wii Fit

The computer game from Nintendo means you can play computer games and get fit at the same time. The Wii Fit comes bundled with the Wii Balance Board. It senses weight and shift in balance in any direction and therefore by standing on the Wii Balance Board during activities allows players to follow along to movements ensuring they have full control of the on-screen activities.

There are four training categories including Aerobic Exercises, Muscle Workouts, Yoga and Balance Games that Nintendo claim will help you (and your friends/family) to develop bodily balance control ability, burn fat in the body, help tone and condition muscles, as well as help increase aerobic stamina. Within those categories there are over 40 different activities such as Hula Hoop, Ski Jump, Press-up Challenge, Rhythm Boxing, Rowing Squat, Lunge and classic Yoga poses such as Half Moon, Tree and Crocodile Twist.

H20 Audio headphones

The H20 Audio headphones aren”t any old headphones, but waterproof headphones that let you listen to your iPod to a depth of up to 10ft, or 3m, thanks to waterproof housing and waterproof speakers. Robust enough for active watersports thanks to a behind-the-neck design, silicone earplugs, and a durable neckwrap to keep them in place they cost around 26.99 pounds and means you”ll be singing underwater as you do length after length.

The Entire Family Loves Our New Home Theater!

April 11, 2008

By Jim Williams

Flick weekends are a big deal in our house. Almost every Friday we hop in the mini van and drive to Blockbuster to get two or three movies. Then we drive over to Papa John to get a couple pies.

We have everything we need for a long night of comfy film watching at home. I have always cherished movies and it has been great to share this love with my family. They now have the same love for movies as I do and it’’s the best way to spend quality time with each other after a long week of work.

Since movies are my desire, I had to stay up on the subject of surround sound and high definition TV. As soon as manufacturers came out with their newest surround sound systems, I was at Ultimate Electronics buying it.

It took me forever to get that system up in my basement but let me affirm you, the sound will blow you away. Everyone jumps when we are watching a horror flick (our favorite). When high definition came out, I researched all about it and was so stimulated about getting it.

I knew that it was going to take my love for movie watching to a completely new level. I went to the store and was so impressed by the awesome high definition pictures. I couldn”t believe an HD representation could look so true. I knew I had to buy one.

I bought the biggest one accessible at the time and brought it home. I had it in my living room on Thursday so it was hooked up and ready to go for Friday night movie time. My family decided to get Saw IV for our first flick on our high definition television.

I thought this would be a great pic for both my surround sound and HD picture. As soon as we put it in, we could see a difference and watching it was something out of this world.

Not only is this picture a extraordinary thriller it keeps you guessing the entire time. Torture machines looked so incredibly realistic on the TV. It’’s almost as if you could walk up to the television and touch it.

I think we may have to make a second night of the week movie night. Since I have the ultimate HD film and TV watching experience in the convenience of my residence, I need to take advantage of it!

Updating My Home Entertainment System

April 11, 2008

By Jim Williams

The Office is my all time favourite tv show at the moment and I was so unhappy when it was temporarily cancelled due to the writer’’s strike. I realise that everyone wants more money but what about what the people need?

Anyway, I heard the strike is over and the writers are returning to write. This means that the sitcom will be returning on air in Apr and I couldn”t be any happier. I am not only glad the sitcom is coming back but I also have a fantastic new HDTV that I cannot wait to try out on The Office.

A couple weeks ago, my little old 19 inch gave out and I knew it was time to take a bounce into the 21st century by buying a shiny new HDTV. All of my friends have been on my case trying to get me to buy a newer tv but I never saw the necessity for it since my 19 inch was perfectly suitable enough for my taste.

Since I had to buy the new tv, I decided on the HDTV as my friends suggested. Ostensibly, I didn”t search it good enough because I didn”t know that in order to get HDTV channels I would have to pay my Dish Co. more money a month!

As if I do not pay enough money as it is and now after dishing out a grand on the television, I will have to pay even more per month. Instead of just succumbing to the realization that I would just have to deal with paying for it, I went online to see if there was a way around it.

I am so pleased I did because I found antennas that will recognize the signals I obtain from my cable Co.. I was dumbfounded to see the antennas were not a ton of money so I purchased one. Anyway, I am looking forward to watching The Office on my new TV.

Maybe Jim and Pam will get married, probably not. Whom I love the best is Michael on the program because he reminds me so much of my old superior. It’’s impressive how many of things that travel out of his pie hole sounds a lot like something he would say.

Not only that, a lot of the stuff he says is such a shock that you just can”t help but laugh. Now that I have a new television to watch and many new shows starting up, I just know that it’’s going to be the best TV watching experience I have had in a real long time.

How To Find The Best Gadgets

April 10, 2008

By Shaun Parker

Ah gadgets, I love them, take something that can be done in a number of ways, find the most pointless way of doing it and there you have the making of a good gadget. Why for example would you want to open a bottle of wine with a bottle opener that will cost you 2pounds when you can also do it with one that costs 50 times as much, or maybe one that’’s built into your sandal or belt buckle.

But gadgets aren”t just about helping you get your bottle of wine open. They come in all shapes and sizes and some would say that the term covers the entire consumer electronics field. I am a gadget lover, ie to love all things gadgety.

Here are some of my more favourite pointless gadgets at the moment.

Glow Tap

This little gizmo fits onto taps and has an internal switch that lights up a set of LEDs when you turn on your tap transforming the stream of water into a waterfall of light. Rather than just as aesthetic effect, there’’s a temperature sensor within the unit that can tell whether the water is cold or hot, and changes the colour of the light accordingly.Complete with a set of universal adaptors for most size taps, the glow flow tap is available now for 14.99 pounds.

Moixa USBCELL batteries

The USBCELL as an environmentally-friendly alternative to normal AA batteries. The top of one side flips up to reveal a USB connector, and the battery simply plugs into an open port. It takes five hours to charge one of the cells if it was fully discharged; each battery has a capacity of 1300mAH. The USBCELL cost around 12.99 pounds for two AA batteries.

Ion iED05 USB drum kit

Aimed at both beginners and experienced drummers, the Ion iED05 drum kit is a digital set-up that connects to your PC via USB. All you have to do is simply connect the adjustable drum kit to your USB port and you will have access to over 200 drum sounds that will work with the velocity-sensitive drum pads and cymbals, which react accurately to every hit. The kit even includes video tutorial software and a drumming game to allow you to play along to music to improve your performance. The Ion iED05 costs 129.99 pounds.

Pleo

Pleo is the Robotic Camarasaurus Dinosaur from the co-creator of the Furby. The one-week old infant Camarasaurus from the late Jurassic period created by UGOBE (You Go Be) is an autonomous Life Form that advances through life stages and develops a unique personality through user interaction. Like Sony’’s Aibo, if you treat him well and he”ll become friendly and outgoing, treat him badly and he”ll become timid or angry. Initially cautious, Pleo will walk around slowly to absorb his surroundings but may cry when frightened or scared. He will stretch when waking up and he may even stomp his foot if he gets angry. Man’’s best friend had better watch out.

Star Trek “Communicator”

Flip up the grill, and you”ll be greeted with the lights and sounds Star Trek fans have come to know and love. As an added bonus, this replica is complete with voice clips from the actual series pre-loaded. Oh, what japes you”ll have listening to Spock ask you if you want an armed party beamed down, and just think of the thrills as you call the Enterprise and hear: “Bridge here, Captain”!

My High Definition Safari Adventure!

April 10, 2008

By Jim Williams

I am a nature admirer. I love to learn about it and admire it whenever I can. I often undergo trips to Indies, Alaska and added parts of the world in search of my desire for animals in their habitats.

The difficulty is I don”t have money to make these trips all the time. This is why I like the National Geographic and Discovery channel. I can”t believe how real the picture is on my television through high definition channels I acquire through my cable provider.

It truly feeds my cravings for the great outdoors when I can”t have it up close and personal. A few weeks ago, I was talking to a person over at the electronics shop and he let me know about an antenna that receives high definition signals.

He said that all I would have to do is buy the antenna and position it to receive the same high definition channels as I do from my cable company. The bonus is I would only have to invest in the antenna and stop paying for these high quality channels every month.

I thought I would try it since I beleived my friend’’s judgement. Now, I have a television with great high definition picture caliber without paying per month for it. I love pocketing money because it gives me more to use on my travels, which do not come cheap.

So now, I can enjoy my nature watching and learning anytime I like. Animals and their environments transfix me so much. Watching it on my television is almost as worthy as going out to the safari to see them in actual settings.

Actually, it’’s much better because I get to see them much closer than I would if I were outside. All I require is my lounge chair, something to consume and my remote and I have transported myself to several of the most picturesque, and impressive places in the world.

The only problem is that watching these places makes me want to visit them. I truly love watching the shows on Hawaii and the Amazon. I knew that there were not many places I haven”t seen that I would love to see someday.

Since I received my HD antenna, I have made a list of 20 must see places and have called my traveling agent almost 5 times. I think having quality high definition picture is going to cost me much more than I thought it would!

Our New Lunch Room Television Set!

April 9, 2008

By Jim Williams

I am a administrator of a outstanding Company, I understand the need to keep moral up. I know my employees will be more productive if they stay happy. This is why I am always taking suggestions for improvements in the office.

I have to admit that I can”t take all the suggestions and make them happen. Nevertheless, I do everything in my power to negotiate or find ways to make a condition better. Lately, one of the greatest complaints has been with our break area. Right now, we have a small room with a icebox, microwave, a sink and some tables and chairs.

We also have a small tv for the employees to view during break. The employees have been whining about the microwave and refrigerator that are old and do not operate really well. Apparently, some of the employee’’s lunches has gone bad due to the icebox’’s temperature control being off.

I called the business division and asked what we could do about this situation. They informed me we did have some funds in the fiscal budget to me to buy a few things for the break room. I started to search around Home Depot and Best Buy for a new refrigerator and microwave.

I ended up going to my local appliance store for the microwave because I knew I could get the best deal. Then I went to Sam’’s for the new icebox. I received such a great deal on both items that I had a lot of money left over. Before I left Sears, I browsed the HDTV area.

I was astonied at how low the prices were for the smaller HDTVs available. I immediately thought how much my staff would love to have an HDTV as part of their break area. However, then I remembered you needed a cable or dish company to provide you with the service for the high quality channels.

I was talking to the sales lady and he educated me that I could buy an antenna that would give me the channels I was wondering about without a monthly expenditure. I went home, checked into the antenna, and found out it also didn”t cost much to purchase.

I found an antenna for indoor use, which would be perfect for our building. I bought the antenna and then went to Sears to buy the HDTV. I could hardly wait for my employees to see the remodeling job in the break room.

As soon as everything arrived, I asked the delivery guys to come after hours so no one would see it. After they put everything where it belonged, the HDTV was perfect in making the area complete.

When my employees came in the next day, they just about fell over when they saw the remodeling job. My employees are happy and so much more committed to their jobs now… so I am a really proud!
